Critics of Dr. Ben Carson are deeply frustrated that the once presidential hopeful continues to demonstrate his steadfast support of Presidential Nominee Donald Trump.  Despite the recently leaked tape of Trump making highly offensive comments about women to Billy Bush, Carson is continuing to act as a highly supportive surrogate to the Trump campaign.

While most prominent Republicans are dashing for the hills to try to put as much distance as possible between the Republican presidential candidate and their personal political reputations since the Washington Post released the tape of Donald Trump and Billy Bush making obscene remarks about women, Carson continues to stick up for Trump.

In case you’ve spent the last few days under a log somewhere, mainstream news outlets and social media have been on fire thanks to a recently leaked tape of Trump and Bush using extremely demeaning language about women.  Trump is heard on the tape bragging about kissing and grabbing women’s private parts.  He said on the tape that he is able to do what he wants to a woman simply because he is a “star.”  Bush, the then host of Access Hollywood and first cousin to President George W. Bush, is heard laughing and agreeing with Trump’s vulgarity.

In an interview with Armstrong Williams, Carson tried to minimize the crude comments by comparing Trump’s conversation with so called pop culture.  He tried to draw a correlation to Trump’s vulgarity with lyrics from rap music.

“There are two issues. The tape itself, which unfortunately is the kind of language that we hear in rap music, we hear in probably coarse conversation, you know, unfortunately, we hear this. No one listening to that tape in media and political life has not heard it before.”

While Carson does admit that Trump’s comments were indeed offensive, he believes that Trump should not be held hostage by a conversation he had eleven years ago.  In an opinion piece published in The Hill, Carson reminded readers that Trump has apologized for his crude remarks and should not be judged by comments he made eleven years ago.

“Even though the incident happened ten years ago, well before Trump entered the political arena, this behavior is unacceptable, especially by someone who aspires to higher office. Trump did the right thing in immediately and unequivocally apologizing.”

Trump is doing whatever he can to dash the flames caused by his crude conversation.  Political experts say that it is not likely that Trump will be able to fully recover from this scandal.

Billy Bush is also feeling the heat of the scandal.  NBC has indefinitely suspended Bush from his anchor position on the Today Show even though Bush has also issued a public apology.
