Last year when the History Channel released its miniseries ‘The Bible’, controversy erupted online and elsewhere due to the uncanny resemblance between the actor who played Satan and President Obama. So now even though there is a new movie called ‘Son of God’ in the works, the President Obama doppelganger who played the devil has been omitted.
While watching the 10 hour miniseris ‘The Bible’ last year, people began to tweet about how much actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni, who played the devil, resembled President Obama. That controversy swirled around for days and it seems that this time around, producers Roma Downer and Mark Burnett aren’t searching for a repeat of accusatory press.
In the new film, ‘Son of God’, which opens February 28, Satan’s character is gone.
“It gives me great pleasure to tell you that the devil is on the cutting-room floor,” said Downey, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“This is now a movie about Jesus, the son of God, and the devil gets no more screen time,” she added.
Downey confirmed that they made sure to leave the controversial Obama look-alike out of the film. Last time the controversy was so fierce that both Downey and Burnett issued statements of support for President Obama, insisting that the character they enlisted to play Satan was not intended to look like Obama.
“Someone made a comment that the actor who played the devil vaguely resembled our president, and suddenly the media went nuts,” Downey told The Hollywood Reporter.
This time around, Downey says she wants to make sure Jesus gets all the glory, so the Obama looking actor is out and the son of God is in.
