For nearly 30 years Michael Jordan has put out a sneaker that has dominated stores and at that same amount of time caused enough mayhem. According to USA Today, crowds have erupted into brawls over the sneaker from the iconic NBA hall-of-famer. This time the shoe in question is over the Jordan XI’s which have so affectionately been called the “Gamma 11’s” for their gamma blue color.
As long as the sneaker has existed there has always been madness to follow and this year has seen no different. There is an Instagram video going around of people in a shoe store at an undisclosed location fighting it out over these tennis shoes. There is also a YouTube video of a fight breaking out in the Bronx at a shoe store between two gentlemen over some Jordans. According to MyFoxDFW, police had to respond to a fight in which people were waiting for the shoes to be release.
In recent years, there has been a Jordan sneaker to make its high-profile release around the holidays but they have usually been re-released versions of older shoes. This year is no different considering that the Jordan XI was originally released in 1996. But at the time of their original release they only had them in mixtures of black, white and red. The new shoes have been released into a gamma blue. For years, the Jordan sneakers have been associated with violent robbery as many adolescents lose their lives after being robbed of the tennis shoes . There are also pictures of people camping out for these sneakers as if they are buying the latest smartphone. The shoes cost around $185 which is the average price of what they have coasted over the years. Despite the negative attention that surrounds them, many people still seek out new Jordan’s each and everyday.
