Earlier this week, police in the Redding area were searching for an armed and dangerous black man after Brent Posada said he’d been shot by a man fitting that description during a struggle over a handgun.
After police began asking Posada questions about his wound and what led to the alleged fight, they discovered that Posada was lying. There was no dangerous black man to be on the lookout for, only one lying white guy, Posada, who’d shot himself with a high powered rifle.
Posada gave a report claiming that he’d been shot by a “black male adult, mid to late twenties, 6’0”, 185 pounds, black hair” when he spoke to police at the hospital. Posada described how he’d pushed the assailant right before the gun went off, and that’s how he got shot in the stomach. Posada also provided a detailed description of his alleged attacker, saying he was wearing a “black hoodie style sweatshirt, blue jeans and black high top shoes with silver stripes.”
Redding is only one percent black, so the police didn’t have many black residents who could’ve been suspects in the case. Investigators revealed this week that Posada made up the whole thing:
On Monday, February 10, 2014, Redding Police Investigators interviewed Posada about the incident. During the interview, Posada admitted that he intentionally shot himself with a high powered air rifle while inside his residence. Posada was not arrested.
At the very least, Posada filed a false report, so it would seem that Poseda should be charged with something, eventually.
