MSNBC’s Goldie Taylor Retweets a Question to Tucker Carlson – ‘Have You Ever Owned a Black?’

After Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced a lift of the ban on women in serving in combat, Tucker Carlson took to Twitter to share his disapproval, even going so far as to goldie taylor and tucker carlsoncongratulate feminism for giving women  “the right to get your limbs blown off in war.”

MSNBC contributor Goldie Taylor decided to have a little fun with Carlson, and retweeted a question from parody Twitter account @OldHossRadbourn, which observed, “Your natty attire and insightful attitude towards women mark you as a man of my generation. Have you ever owned a black?”

Tucker Carlson was probably just drumming up support for his Daily Caller blog with his rant, tweeting, “The administration boasts about sending women to the front lines on the same day Democrats push the Violence Against Women Act.”

On Twitter, many people Tweeted Carlson to inform him that the Violence Against Women Act deals with assault, such as r*pe, not voluntary service in combat. Women were also getting their limbs blown off prior to Panetta’s announcement.

Talylor didn’t leave it there, either. She took Carlson to school on his own duplicity, tweeting:

Oh my goodness. Tucker Carlson, who never once considered enlisting, now chastising women who do…#MarinesDontWearBowties

I didn’t know Dancing with the Stars qualified Tucker for battle pay and VA benefits…

The others on Twitter made the mistake of attacking Taylor for calling Tucker Carlson to the carpet even though she never served herself. Turns out they were wrong. Taylor is a former active duty Marine. Oops.

If the purpose of the military was truly to defend the citizens of this country and make it strong, they would be protecting women from violence in their own ranks and in every city in this country. They would be building up our shorelines to protect us from the inevitable further flooding of climate change. They would be re-building our tattered roads and utilities and installing solar panels so that we do not depend on non-renewable resources (of which incidentally they are one of the biggest users).

But instead, our military serves as the global bully, taking swings at whomever we don’t like at at any particular moment, with little heed to the negative impact that has on us all. And every time there is a war, civilian women who live where the war is being fought are victimized. And here at home more money is poured into the military while social services, education and health care are desperately underfunded and for poor women and women of color we perpetuate the cycle that propels them to join the military for reasons such as getting an education and job training.

So yes, equal rights and benefits are necessary, but not at the expense of condoning a system that requires us to kill and destroy for empire and perpetuates a myriad of harms against women, against men too, and against Mother Earth. That is a false and harmful premise of equality that we must reject.

Well Put. I remember the women in the military debate- if women could end up on the front lines in battle. Some thought that argument was just hyperbole at the time. 30 – 35 yrs later ‘Well You’ve gone a long way baby’- you’ve earned the right to equally kill & be killed for the US’ DoD MIISC.
