A man likely raised the eyebrows of the Secret Service when he grabbed President Barack Obama and gave him a massive bear hug. Scott Van Duzer lifted the president a full foot in the air in a hug that sources say wasn’t planned or expected.
The Florida man also happens to be a registered Republican, but he says he’s going to vote for Obama in November. The Secret Service says that the hug was ok, as long as he didn’t try to take the president away.
The incident occurred at the end of a two-day bus trip, where the president made a quick stop at Big Apple Pizza & Pasta.
“Scott, what’s going on, man,” the president said. “Let me tell you, you are like the biggest pizza shop owner I’ve ever seen.”
“Everybody, look at these guns,” Obama said. “If I eat your pizza will I look like that?”
That’s when Scott gave the president a hug and lifted him up off the ground.
“Look at that!” Obama said while in the air. “Man, are you a powerlifter or what?”
It just happens that the 6’3”, 260 pound Van Duzer can bench press 350 pounds. Van Duzer does a great deal of charity work in addition to being a business owner, which was part of the reason that President Obama came to see him.
“I still wonder how he got these biceps,” sad Obama. “But what we know is that the guy’s just got a big heart along with big pecs. So we’re very proud of him and we just want to say thank you for all the great work.”
Van Duzer got just 40 minutes’ notice that President Obama was coming. So, he rushed off the golf course in order to meet him. What a day.
