This is not the first time it has been revealed that Mitt Romney’s father was on welfare. In July, Kulture Kritic published a video of George Romney, Mitt Romney’s father, admitting that his family returned to America with nothing after having fled the Mexican revolution, and had to be fed and housed by the U.S. government.
In a contentious run-in with a reporter, George Romney said, “I know what’s it’s like to be poor. My family was fed and housed by the United States government.”
Addicting Info reports:
You see, George Romney arrived in El Paso, Texas, as part of 4,000 other refugees fleeing the Mexican Revolution. Once they arrived, the United States did not just wave them by, to let them fend for themselves. Instead, it opened up its arms, welcoming them not only into the United States, but granted to them $250 each, equal to just under of $6,000 today. On top of that, the US provided food, clothing, and supplies. George Romney grew up with his food, housing, and schooling taken care of by the US Government.
So while the right wing calls Obama the “Food Stamp President”, they’re ignoring the fact that the Romneys were sustained by welfare when they returned to America. George Romney’s life and wealth were all made possible by the generosity of American hand-outs. Had it not been for welfare, Mitt Romney wouldn’t be here.
