Pastor Jamal Bryant: Obama Better Get To Black Churches Soon To Explain Himself on Gay Marriage

Pastor Jamal Bryant did an interview with the Tom Joyner Morning Show today about President Obama’s support of gay marriage and seemed to indicate that President Obama has some damage control to do in the black church.

Pastor Jamal Bryant.

“I absolutely, vehemently disagree with the president,” Bryant said. “I agree with his presidency, but with this policy, I do not agree. Marriage is the original institution of the church.”

Asked if he would switch over and vote for Mitt Romney, Bryant said, “I think, given the option I’ve got, which is Mitt Romney, I’ve got no choice.”

“Black people are not going to switch over to the Republican party or put Romney signs on their front lawn. The critical concern is whether they will vote with apathy and not show up at the polls,” Bryant said.

“The reality is, President Obama better be in some black churches real soon clapping his hands, singing Amazing Grace and waving that right hand because the black vote is going to be very critical and apathy may win this election if we don’t get on the ground,” Pastor Bryant warned.

Do you agree? Does President Obama need to go to black churches and explain himself?

It seems our President did a very good job of explaining how he arrived at that decision. Churches can treat people differently if they choose, but the government cannot and should not, treat taxpayers differently. Same-gender loving taxpayers should be made tax exempt in states that insist on treating them as second-class citizens.

I knew this was coming and I’ve been waiting.

The Black Church said absolutely nothing about the President making backroom deals with the pharmacuetical and insurance companies and didn’t keep his promise for Single Payer Healthcare Insurance. Most medical insurance is through employers and when you are laid off you lose those benefits. With Single Payer, at least you can work for companies that don’t offer healthcare or temp agencies.

They don’t speak out against the war in Iraq, Afganistan and the lie the President told about the reason he agreed with NATO’s helping the rebels overthrow Qaddahfi in Libya. It was a humanitarian mission, it was a regime change. The war in Iraq was not to protect this country nor the citizens. It was to protect the profits of the oil companies.

Do you all know what Imperialism is? The same mentality that oppressed Black people in this country, is the same mentality that send our military to other countries to kill to get what they want. You don’t say a thing.

When did not only the wealthy ministers, but other ministers come together as one to call the music industry and their prostitute artist to the carpet while they destroyed a few generations of Black youth with their filty music and boarderline porn videos?

We beg and wait for White folks to educate our kids that are reading below their grade level, what are you doing about that? What about voter registration drives seeing that law are being passed to hinder minorities from voting?

You don’t even teach your flock about the real Bible, the Original Scriptures. You teach the same bible that slave owners taught slaves with when they first came to America. The Original Scriptures was translated from Hebrew in Greek, then Latin, than English. In between all the translation, there was information that was taken out and added in. Why would you want to teach your flock the same why slave owners taught slaves? Don’t you know their bible and imperialism go hand and hand?

Now you want to call the president to the carpet because he said G&L should be allowed to marry. He’s not president to just people who does not believe in that type of lifestyle, he’s president to everyone and everyone does not believe in your religion, Christianity. They have to answer to their GOD, not yours! Stay out of people’s bedroom, you can’t legislate morals and values.

Christianity was taught to slave, then passed on through generations. Just because that’s what the slave master take doesn’t make it true. What did they ever teach slaves that was passed through generations that was to our advantage? Nothing!Start teaching the “Real” Bible, the Original Scriptures and YAHUWAH will show the way.

Your posting consists entirely of falsehoods. Answering all of them would be
sheer drudgery, so I’ll just address enough to show you how rife you are with
ignorance and to nudge you toward finding and posting facts rather than
falsehoods. My odds of success? Slim at best. Pigheaded ignorance is nearly

President Obama did not “fail to keep his promise” for a Single Payer Health
Insurance System. The GOP gridlocked the US Senate and _prevented_ a Single
Payer plan from going into law.

The president can only sign the laws that reach his desk.

Thus, the “backroom deals” which you referenced failed also to exist on the
part of the president, since it was the bought and paid for GOP senators whose
very blatant public venality was instead the situation, at least on this

Being awake at the time the laws were being considered in 2009 would have been
enough to keep you better informed.

Your understanding of “Imperialism” is all of muddled, confused, pitiful, and
laughable. Unlike Humpty Dumpty, you don’t get to assign your own special
meanings to words, at least not and expect to communicate using them, to
persons using the words in their commonly understood meanings.

“…for White folks to educate…”; and yet the single biggest barrier to
successful education is unwillingness on the part of a student’s parents to
take full responsibility for creating a home environment conducive to learning.

Beyond which, majority students are equally ill served as minority students by
an education system whose funding is kept far below the level needed to
accomplish even an eighth grade education in twelve years. Complaining about
problems common to everyone as if only your special interest group suffered
from them is a fast track to being roundly ignored.

When you remove the “filthy music” and “semi-porn videos” created by and for
Blacks from the fare offered by the music industry, come back and you will
receive a less guffaw-filled response to your whining.

The “original scriptures”(sic) were not “written in” Hebrew. Almost all of the
old and new testaments existed as an oral tradition long (decades, centuries,
sometimes millennia) before they encountered a literate and willing scribe. The
number of languages in which they originally existed isn’t easily countable,
since so much of scriptures were plundered from other earlier religions’
scriptures that the provenance of those “biblical” scriptures cannot be easily
established. Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, and several other languages are all known
to have been the “original written” languages of parts of the “biblical

A detailed study of the languages of scripture (and of the large fraction of it
provably false on its face), might enlighten you. This, also, might prove
      educational: .

“They have to answer to their GOD, not yours!” Why burden oneself with a “god”
at all? Like the rest of your misinformation, the idea that “gods” are an
essential part of intelligent discourse fails to meet the requirement that it
show some contact to reality. Educate yourself concerning ontology,
metaphysics, reality, and the requirements for something to be “proven real”,
then come back and talk to us.

“Start teaching the ‘Real’ Bible” [there is no such thing], “the Original
Scriptures” [no such entities have ever existed] “and YAHUWAH”(sic) “will show
the way” [well, no; 6000 years of failures to do any such thing are unlikely to
turn about and suddenly become successful in your lifetime or in mine].

I think its these black ministers that have some explaining to do. First, they need to explain how and why they are allowing themselves to be duped into siding with the same racist organizations that are funding “voter suppression” efforts, “stand your ground laws”, “defunding education”, rolling back civil rights & affirmative action laws” etc etc…. They need to explain that!!

Really ??? This is like the pot calling the kettle black…does he even remember the last time he slept with his own wife lol

Exactly!! That Rev Bryant would have the gall to be on radio talking about the sanctity of marriage is laughable given all the sexual escapades he has admitted to while married (God only know what he aint copped to ). I almost drove off a road when I heard HIM of all people talking about the ‘Sanctity of marriage’. He needs to first read the definition of the word and then APPLY that principle to his own marriage! Classic example of those in glass houses. For your information, Passa, President Obama aint got to explain nuthin to me. Contrary to popular belief the black church is not as monlithic as people think and we not necessary influenced by the president or some shady hypocrite sitting in the pulpit. We can make our own decisions on how we think

    Mr. Pastor,
I completely understand that you do not have the physical capacity to believe the idea of homosexuality – because you yourself are not gay…- but the reality is that there is a massive population that has an ingrained wiring to be physically and emotionally attracted to the same sex. Again, I understand that because you don’t share this “trait” it is impossible for you to sympathize or even empathize with a group of people that religion and society has deemed as others or a minority- right… Impossible to understand.

How dare the President go against your (your= innate bias) literal interpretation of the Bible and God’s word? If I’m correct it is that same bible that you wave as you loudly condemn “the gay lifestyle” is the same book that that thousands of racist clinched to as they auctioned our ancestors or hung them by trees not too long ago.

As a people that have risen from the depth of evil, hate and ignorance and continue to battle the inequality – how dare we perpetuate that same practice on any group of humans in this modern age!

I like you lack the capacity to physically relate to entities outside of my individual reality. As a black gay male I will never innately know why a man lust a women and in the same vain I will never be able to understand why a woman can long for another women. However I have sense enough to truly believe that God creates us all in the image that he sees fit- not in the image that is cast upon us by elitist and the self-proclaimed righteous who interpret God’s will at their discretion but fail to interpret and live by his love.

We are indeed entitled to our own opinions but when those opinions fundamentally impede on others liberties it is an injustice for us all. The issue of homosexual rights is no different than the ongoing battle for racial equality.

The Stop and frisk practice by cops is the perfect example of how ignorance and intolerance impact the civil liberties of our young black men. In New York City, young black men make up only 5% of the population but they account for almost 40% of the stop and frisk policy. How does this compare you ask to the issue of same sex marriage? Its simple- there are legal precedencies in place that are fueled by personal biases and ignorance that help to perpetuate and maintain inequality for SOME (in this case of stop and frisk – young black males defines as thugs).

It’s time that black leaders and the black community everywhere stop chasing the good ol’ boy wagon by assimilating to their practice and customs of making one group of humans inferior for the sole purpose of personal gratification and ego sustainment.

It’s time that all stop defining God’s love by our own selfish terms. An injustice to anyone is an injustice to us all.

Ths president will lose the support of this black voter like myself. He had done more for support other minority groups than blacks, ignoring our concerns, then expects blacks to show up and vote for him like loyal slaves. I disagree with gay marriage and will not waste my vote again on President Obama. I’m so glad I changed from Democrat to Independent 4 years ago.

The President can keep his change in his pocket because his change had done nothing but sell out blacks. I know there are blacks who will reelect him no matter what, but this one will not.

I’m amazed at how holier-than-thou “religious” people can be when it comes to others. It doesn’t matter to me that this cat was chosen by Tom Joyner to address President Obama’s position on gay marriage, the buck doesn’t stop with Tom Joyner of Jamal Bryant. If we’re going to select a president based no religious beliefs then we need all major religions represented. I find it interesting that conservatives want to get back to what this country was founded on…those individuals that created all of these rules are policies and laws also owned slaves while at the same time claimed to be Christians. I believe that if Jesus was in human flesh today would not attend no church proclaiming to represent Him because they are hippocrates. Let God be the judge and jury. Let President Obama do his job for the U.S.A. which is a melting pot and answer to God for his choices. I’m voting for President Obama in Nov.

  8. Smooth

    May 11, 2012 at 5:45 pm

Personally, I don’t think we should deflect the attention from the President and assault the character of Jamal Bryant. Perhaps Pastor Bryant shouldn’t have been name Pastor of the Year – if that is indeed what took place. The fact of the matter, no one is perfect including ministers and pastors. The Bible declares “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” Romans 3:23-24. King James Version

With that being said, does that mean Pastor Bryant can just do what he wants? NO! The Bible also says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. I John 1:9 – King James Version

Now, back to the issue, what bothers me is President Obama considers himself Christian but he is supporting actions or behaviors he should be encouraging people from participating in.

Case in point, the Amplified Bible states “If a man lies with a male as if he were a woman, both men have committed an offense (something perverse, unnatural, abhorrent, and detestable); they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them”. Leviticus 20:13.

Finally, everyone is talking about marriage, Jesus said “But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh”. Mark 10:6-8 King James Version.

As a fellow christian I’m disappointed in the MAN I voted for as President. I thought he would represent our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I just pray that one day christians would stand up and please God rather than man or people.

Are Black people willing to throw their families under the Bus because of the Presidents decision to treat others as he want to be treated.

Christian yes, I am, and believe in marriage between a man and a woman only. However, this bullying and hate must stop there’s nothing Christian about that.

Politics and Religion should be separate period.

Republicans keep trying to legislate peoplel’s personal choices that have nothing to do with the government.

Women’s bodies, but hum on Viagra, stealing our right to vote, taking food from the hungry and the poor

A decision really? You would let Republicans on one issue that will take your Social Security and Medicare, and Medicaid if Republicans are elected for this issue?

    You can’t be serious.

This pastor, it’s your job to teach your congregation what’s in their best interest.

Our Constitution separates Church & State but the Republicaans keep using the Black Community to take away their standard of living jobs yet no one is talking about all those Republicans who are GAY in the Republican Party that are told to Lay Low while they BASH the Gay community

There are many Gay Republicans in the Republican Party, however, they are not allowed to speak out.

    So that’s ok Rev?

I’ve been making the same argument for months. On any issue, I just can’t believe people will vote against their interests. None of us agree with everything the President says (at least I hope not), but he’s the most aligned with my interest so this Christian brother will vote for him. I’m so glad I think for myself. Be in the group, and not of the group people. Black folk can believe the hype and let apathy stifle their vote if they want to ignorantly; things are going to get worse with Romney at the helm. Ellison said it best in the Invisible Man, “I’m invisible only because people refuse to see me”. This is the only superpower Romney will give the black American community, invisibility. The revolution will not be televised because we’re living it people!

You are delusional. They are a hate groupnno different than the kkk, but they use the media and try to back door laws and whine for acceptance while attacking my book of faith. That is unacceptable. Most are in the closet so scared to come out, yet claim they are the new black? In what bizarro world do most of you people live in?

And gay is a choice to indulge in unnaturalbsexual relations. Gays choose their lifestyle, which is why most are scared to death of coming out. Hollywood is full of gays playing straight for pay, fooling the public while behind closed doors, most are gay. Sad lies. Most black bisexual men called down low because they enjoy sexual relations with a man while lying about being straight. The same guess for women too.

I think the black church has some explaining to do. Explain how the Pastors drive extravagant cars, live in plush homes and wear great clothes off the back on their congregation, who are struggling themselves!

They need to explain how they don’t teach the people how to really live an overcoming Christian life, but are mean and judgmental and how they even fight amongst other churches.

They need to explain how it is they are supposed to be loving, caring and concerned about people, but they are the biggest hypocrites in the world. Especially this Jamal Bryant who has sex
with someone in his congregation, get caught…then gets up
a preaches a sermon called: ‘I’m Still The Man’!!!! WTF??

I don’t think President Obama needs to explain himself to anyone. Hopefully he will confess his decision to the Almighty. LGBTs want civil rights and that’s what the President is giving them, their civil rights — whether it’s right or wrong. It’s like when blacks wanted their rights — may be not a good example. I believe the outcome will be unfavorable for LGBTs.

I truly feel that one can not judge the president on his stance with regard homosexuality due to politic and God will always be controversy as neither President Obama or Romney are Saved and practice salvation. They are our choice’s with regards to presidency and they are potentially good at politic’s but not surrendering to Christ. Our goal as American citizen is to select the better out of the (2) choice’s. As a Christian I supported Obama for his overall beliefs and his positive attitude towards the people and his continuation to keep his promise’s to the American people . I pray for him that God will Save him as we all know that we live in a time wherein the World is fallen and is in need of a SAVIOR. Yes I know who Jamal Bryant is, he is pastor in Maryland. Pastor should pay attention to what he doing in his own bedroom with his wife. Lest he forgotten his behind is not without spot nor wrinkle. I get tired of these so called spiritual teachers and church goers acting like they sucky muchy…why don’t he teach his congregation about HIV prevention, homosexuality, teenager pregnancy and generational poverty? Why are folks still poor despite giving their hard earned 10% tithes and volunteering to the church in run down communities lead by these so called holier than pastors. What about that? Why are our seniors citizens worked to the bone in these churches without pay? What about educational grants for students within their churches, huh? No that would be too much like right. Instead we are still taught to be enslaved and turn against one another while taking care of our pastor over indulgent lifestyles. What about that? Dude got the nerve to question and call out President Obama personal stance? This not about gay folks this is about having equal protection under the law. My reply to Daystar “Christian” Television’s responsive rant and misrepresentation of President Obama’s position is an appropriate reply to Pastor Bryant.

    Greetings to you,

I appreciate your response. Thank you. Now, with all due respect, allow me to correct you. President Obama, (Daystar does know President Obama is our President, what is with the “Obama”?) explicitly stated that marriage is a state issue. Acknowledging the conflict between religious beliefs and equal treatment in this instance, President Obama said that he would not interfere with religious institutions or what those institutions chose to do with respect to marriage equality. The fact is that Marcus grossly misrepresented, giving him the benefit of the doubt, or he lied about our President’s position. President Obama never said anything about “legalizing gay marriage”. Marcus’s statement is the type of false communication that divides Christians and makes people who are rightfully sensitive to racism suspect of improper, unGodly, motives. A person or entity that refuses to correct a misrepresentation or lie is not worthy of the public trust or the privilege of a public forum.

As a committed Christian, I am aware of what Scripture says about homosexuality. I am also aware of what it says about adultery, fornication, lying and judgment; all are “contrary to the Bible.” Moreover, I am aware that the scripture says to “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” -Psalm 82:3 I could go on about what the Holy inspired word of God says about the poor but you get the message. Despite an obstructionist Republican Congress whose enunciated goal is to make this Administration fail, President Obama has held fast to scripture and not waivered from his commitments.

“The next step is he and his team pushing states to get it legalized.” Respectfully, neither our President nor his team has the authority to push states to do anything as evidenced by the outcome of the recent North Carolina vote. Marriage is a state issue and our President and his team have no authority to influence states. My authority is the 10th Amendment and Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution. Where is the credible authority for your statement?

Regarding your assertion “Whether Obama said I endorse same-sex marriage or pushes to legalize it under the table; it is an ungodly union — it is the same thing.” Again I respectfully disagree. It is not the same thing. The first part of your statement is a misrepresentation or a lie and you present no evidence to support for latter part. We agree that it [homosexuality] is an ungodly union. Adultery and fornication are also unGodly unions. Surely you Know an adulator or fornicator who God has forgiven?

Let’s agree to disagree over our President’s “flip flops”. Evolution of position based on additional knowledge, information or soul searching is positive, not negative. I am fairly certain that most Christians would agree that evolution of thought and changes of heart are positive. Isn’t that precisely how sinners come to Christ? Thank God America evolved from “[The negro] has no rights which the white man is bound to respect.” Justice Roger B. Taney, Dred Scott v. Sandford, (1857). How different our society could have been if our revered founders adhered to the Bible as God’s benchmark, not “color, race, political agenda,” when they memorialized in our founding document that Black people were fractional human beings.

Yes, I am familiar with scripture. I’ve read and understand the passage about “someone who causes someone to stumble”. A truthful answer to a direct question will not cause anyone to stumble; the homosexual population will not increase because of our President’s personal opinion. I am also aware that God’s benchmark is the Bible. As you are aware, every President swears to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”, not the Bible. That includes the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution, “[No State] shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Again, the choice of our revered founders.

As for President Obama being the only sitting President who “EVER endorsed homosexual activity”, you know that is a falsehood. President Obama endorsed equal treatment under the law; no more, no less. He is the only sitting President who has honored his oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”. Courageous, wouldn’t you say?

“What does asking Daystar, “… if we have discussed health care have to do with Obama endorsing that which is contrary the Bible?” Glad you asked that question; like homosexuality, it is a moral issue. Daystar professes that it is speaking out because homosexuality is a moral issue, why the silence on health care reform? Life is life; born lives and unborn lives. Roe v. Wade became the law of the land in 1973, President Obama took office in 2009. How rational is it to pin “millions of unborn babies are slaughtered every day” on President Obama? It is ironic that the same people who promote the unborn are silent or actively oppose health care laws and policies which preserve the lives of the born. Protect them until they crown then throw a telethon and beg for cash to buy wheelchairs and crutches if they are born with a handicap? Go figure.

As for how our tax dollars are spent, we agree with you 100%. I am appalled by my tax dollars being used to invade a sovereign nation with no ties to 9/11, no WMDs and no threat to America. I am appalled that my government uses my tax dollars to subsidize oil companies and give tax incentives to companies that lay off American workers and outsource American jobs. I cry when I think of the 4,500 plus American lives lost, the tens of thousands maimed and the countless number of innocent Iraqis killed or maimed for political gain. God help us!

Another point of agreement is “spending billions of dollars we do not have.” It is undisputable that the Bush Recession/Depression put our country in dire economic straits. Squandering the Clintion surpluses, tax cuts to the wealthy and unGody, unnecessary, war took a toll on our economy. Fact is, the same people are still arguing that the tax cuts that were in effect during the Bush Recession/Depression when our economy lost 800,000 jobs per month promote economic growth, create jobs and stimulate the economy. Silly, isn’t it?

FYI Adulterous, fornicating, lying and/or homosexual preachers, ministers, missionaries, evangelists, television hosts and those who turn a blind eye to their unGodly behavior “knowing, willingly and openly endorse sin.” “All unrighteousness is sin.” “A horrible tragedy and sending people to hell … .” Thank God for the Blood of Jesus!

“The Lambs have given over $50 million dollars to needy and hurting people around the world … ” Well paise God, because many of those dollars came from needy and hurting people who support Daystar. “I feel that answers all questions regarding caring about needy people.” I do not share your feeling. Neither the Lambs nor Daystar has addressed the needless suffering and loss of life related to lack of access to basic preventive health care and life saving treatments.

Like you, I reply in love. Therefore, I do not address your accusations of “socialism,” … or against “those who don’t work, illegal immigrants and a lot of other folks, … or [homosexuals] spreading disease, stealing lives from healthy adulthood and a future from kids who are being sold into sex slavery here and abroad … .” As mean spirited and un-Christ like as your statements sound, even Christians have off days. Surely you do not attribute all these societal ills to President Obama, people who don’t work e.g., the unemployed, illegal immigrants or homosexuals? Aren’t socialists, the unemployed and illegal immigrants included in God’s call for Daystar “to present the Gospel to all Nation?” Aren’t they God’s children also?

“We [Daystar] almost never make political statements, but when we do, it is our right and privilege to do so.” Not quite true. If Daystar pays taxes, have at it. If not, it has neither right nor privilege.

Do I support homosexuality? Absolutely not, I do not support adultery, fornication, lying, misrepresentation, … either. “Are you standing up for same-sex marriage?” No, I do not. Nonetheless, I do stand for equal treatment for all. “Are you standing up for Obama?” Absolutely, proudly and unequivocally!

Bryant better hope the IRS isn’t asking him what’s he doing with the money his church is taking in!! Gays aren’t the issue in our society today, its jobs, homelessness, education, and black-on-black male violence…..WHAT IS BRYANT DOING ABOUT THOSE THINGS AT HIS CHURCH!

When churches are doing more for the community then I’ll pay attention to what preachers who dress fly and stay highly groomed are saying in the press……Bryant, you got work to do….get to it!

Besides, preachers like Eddie Long (on the down low) don’t stand up well either…..hypocrisy seems to be alive and well in black church leaders today across the south!!

We as a “people” only account for 17+/- % of the population of the United States of America, and most of what I am hearing and reading is that the “our” President had turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to our needs…???? What is wrong with our people!!! I ask our people of colour to stop looking for a savior to hang your hat of courage on. Such request should be given to GOD not our President. He is fighting for the equality of our country not a select few. He job of fixing the problems of not just the last eight years but for the last 16 plus years. Withhold your vote? Who will you hurt more, Our President or Our Country?

I’m so glad Obama dumb ass made a fool of pastors and of the black pastors in particular. I knew Obama was the devil. I didn’t vote for him four years ago and I never will.

Black pastors sold Obama to their members after being warned he was a rotten bag of apples-faulty-the devil. Now those pastors have to stand before their congregations and tell them that either God is wrong about homosexual sin or Obama is wrong.

Obama told black pastors four years ago that lie about it being more than one way to enter into heaven and that Jesus was not needed to enter into heaven. Black pastors still ran with that devil. I’m going to church tomorrow not to give a dime, but just to spy on them black pastors. Obama got them looking like losers- he backed their straddling the fence asses into a corner- into a God or Baal corner- come on now black pastors choose! The entire host of heaven gone be watching this Sunday and so am I.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Pastor Bryant’s reaction to President Obama’s evolution on this matter, is more to do with the fear of him and half his congregation being “outed” than of anything else. The black church in America has always been a sanctuary for many young, black men who are homosexual. It’s a fact – however much the black community wishes to live in a perpetual state of denial. It really is time to cut the hypocrisy and face up to the truth.

  34. Better Choices

    May 12, 2012 at 4:16 pm

All of us need prayer, instead of criticizing our President for making a decision that was hard to do, we should be Praying for him. Pastor Bryant should be advising his flock to be in Prayer for the President, as well as our Nation.

Although, I do not agree with the President’s decision, I understand that someone has to do it. I would rather it be him, than anyone else. If we all play our positions, to the best that we can than we would not live to rip and tear each other down. We could live out the word of God as it instructs us to do.

We should be able to come together as a People it’s time. Let us lift one another, especially since most of the world can come together. We choose to degrade ourselves, and the world follows what we do to hurt our very own. Rise …together and… follow the word of God. Ephesians 6:10 -18:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

I had a lot to say yet, others have articulated in both long and short ideas most of what I wanted to say so there is no need to rehash ideas. For me suffice it to say: The President spoke basically on Social Justice Constitutional terms trying to leave out
his own personal feelings for the betterment of all people sure
morality is involved but that is the basis of Social justice in the
first place. I fully support our current President Barack Obama
and will proudly vote to re-elect him while encouraging others
to vote for him as well.

As a black female heterosexual christian, I am torn, I totally support the President and will continue to do so. What people are failing to get is by saying that Gays are not allowed to “marry” it is telling them they are less than as a citizen. That is why there is separation of CHURCH and STATE. He is the President of ALL people, not only the STRAIGHT segment of the country. We as Christians need to LOVE like JESUS loved, HE never turned anyone away because they didn’t share his beliefs, HE loved everyone. In the BLACK church we are so busy JUDGING and not reaching out and making the BIBLE relevant to the world today. There are gays in the church but we act as if we don’t know , people sleeping with each other fornicating , living together and doing all sorts of non christian things.we all have the same rights as humans and citizens and it should not change because others think who we love is wrong, Yes and I know Gods view and THAT will always take precedent , but let GOD judge every man. JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED because EVERYONE has something in their closet (ASK EDDIE LONG)

Obama does not owe this man or anyone on the planet an explanation. The same blac church who never acknowledged that James Cleveland was a closeted homosexual who died from HIV. The same church who refused to rebuke Eddie Long? Get the beam out of your eye first. Black people are a joke. Homosexuality is not a pathology. When the blacks who attend church stop stigmatizing their own members, it will be a new day. Obama stated his own feelings on the subject. The ministers who are calling him out should get their houses in order first. Bigots.

As a black woman, I would like to remind black churches of another institution that found its bearings in the church/bible….slavery. Why are we, as a people, such staunch supporters of a foundation that not only supported but demanded our oppression? I am not attempting to slander the Christian faith as whole (I believe in living as Christ did…not as we project him to suit our own prejudices) . However, I do not ever understand a group of previously oppressed people so vehemently eager to oppress another group? Does this make us feel as if we have arrived? Are we validated through this behavior? Or is this another example of how mentally enslaved we still are that we will so enthusiatically condemn another group to deflect attention from our own entrapment? Whatever it is, we need to ask ourselves exactly when Jesus passed his authority of judgement to us mere mortals that any man must answer to us for his convictions.

I read some pretty profound statements that I would like to reuse on my blogs as the peoples message, I am not one who believes a man and woman should marry but I understand how to agree to disagree, I am voting for our President simply because he has done a great job at attempting to fulfill the promise he made, with a lot of opposition and if the Black church don’t understand the move then its on them, Its not what God is saying about the President what is he saying to the church overall, besides there is no new thing under the sun so homosexuality has existed all the time, and they got stuck on the word rather than the actual statement he made, We keep falling in the same trap divide and conquer….We need to be trying to help families come together and stand strong rather than making judgement on the president, who may or may not understand the laws of God the way we claim we do

  43. Leta

    May 13, 2012 at 1:46 am

Obama does not need to show up at the black or white church. We need to stop attaching race to the church and address the church as Christ intended. I believe this decision was made to lock in then gay voters at the expense of losing black voters. God knew that this day would come so He is not shocked. Everyone of us will be judged due to the choices we make here on earth whether straight or gay. He said watch and pray for a reason! God also said he will have mercy and compassion on who He chooses. I have much love for our president however I am shocked that he supports same sex marriage. That is his choice and in the end God will be the judge

And sir with that kind of thinking ( it’s the church way or no way) is the reason there are so many lost souls. Kim…I find it interesting that you want so much to block the freedoms of people in a democratic system that you don’t even respect enough to participate in. I believe that someone, such as yourself, may be better suited to living in the Middle East where you, nor anyone else, has the freedom to dictate their lives and maybe you will be happy as everyone will be equally oppressed. I pray that you are not African-American while proudly spitting in the face of hard won voting rights. Or is this now included in the teachings of the black church as well. How far, as a people, are we attempting to fall exactly? I just want to know so I can know when to anticipate the crashing impact.

Wisdom declares that sometimes we have to be all things to all men that we might win them for good. Apostle Paul did this by shaving his head. His heart wasn’t in the ritual. He did it to win. Obama’s heart is not in gay marriage. The Harvard magna cum laude? has done his math homework. He’ll get more votes this way. The ignorance of the Pastors are the sad problem in the Black church. The don’t know that homosexuality is part of the sin nature like all the rest. Why harp on just this one? If we offend or sin in one, God says we are guilty of all. Black Pastors do not know what “guilty of all” means. All? Lastly, for the record, I am a Christian Pastor ala beautiful melanin as a physical covering. FORCE is the issue. I cannot force my intimate relationship with Christ on anyone. God commands us all to come to Him and yet He does not force Himself upon any of us. Herein is wisdom. If I tell my child not to touch that fire… Innately he will. I’ll appear hidden, then when the child moves to touch, I’ll allow him to feel the fire, then step in to prevent serious harm. Here’s the point. The child now knows from experience the feeling of BURN. He also knows that I got his back and he to let him have his own experience. I have to let my gay and all other brothers who can’t see the burn have their own experience so that they will KNOW what burn is. If I force them, how will they ever know? You do not think the young Harvard scholar knows this? Ha Ha . Jesus said the children of the world are wiser that the children of light. It was religious folk, the Jewish Pharisees and Saducees that could have prevented the Romans from executing Jesus. They chose a murderer like them instead, Barabbas. Religious folk are killing our Prez. for all the above reasons. He did proper math the first time and wisely used the calculator of computer technology to win. And you know what? He won. Have a good day.

It’s obvious that Black people and whites are of two different nature and obama understanding the nature of whites are pandering to them, he is of little concern that Black people may become apathetic and not show up at the polls. Even without the bible as somwhat of a guide, nature informs that homosexuality is un-naturall and a crime against nature. It is anti life affirming and therefore of death. This world is in judgement and people are taking sides. There are those who is for life and good and on the otherhand there are those who is for evil and wrong. Same sex marr iage was unthinkable years ago, later it became a laughable joke, now it is a abstract reality. Where will the absurdity stop? People marrying their dogs, of the acceptanece of pedophilia!

What’s there to explain… There is no explanation he can offer. Marriage is sacred before God. Secondly why now? It was a last minute ploy for votes.

With all due respect to the good pastor, President Obama did not make a policy statement. He gave his personal opinion to which he is still entitled. On another note Pastor Bryant, where was your outrage and call to accountability when fellow pastor Eddie Long was accused of sexual misconduct involving young boys? Do you now speak with a “forked tongue”?

  56. Dee

    May 17, 2012 at 12:46 pm

This is the most ridiculous article I have ever read and so hypocritical. This issue or policy is not a black issue, or a white issue it is (if we are looking at it from a spiritual point of view) a sin issue. That being said, why aren’t Pastors lobbying for the President to come to their churches to speak about any other sin that is plaguing the “black church.” What about adultery Pastor Bryant which is something you actively engaged in; should the President come to the “black church” in an effort to restore the black family that many churches fail to commit to.

The issue here is moral fibers; and though I do not agree with same sex marriages based on my morals, I believe that each persons’ value system and morals are different. Further, from a spiritual perspective (Christianity) the Bible is clear that each man/woman needs to work out “their own” salvation. It is our position as spiritual leaders to preach the word and deal with all sin, but not to alienate those who are living a lifestyle contrary to what we interpret the word of God to mean, but to love the individuals without loving, or embracing what we interpret as sin; yes that includes all sin.

God is not respecter of person, so turning this moral issue into a black church issue is simply nonsense and reminds me of how misguided we can be as “black leaders” to promote that foolishness. Truthfully, most of the leaders who are speaking this way are opportunist and simply refusing to deal with the bigger issues in the “black church.” For the record, there is no “black church” or “white church” but the church is the house of the Living God…stop turning every matter into a black, white issue because we have an African American President.

  57. Miranda

    May 27, 2012 at 3:02 pm

This is apalling! It is amazing that those of the supposedly “elect” can misinterpret the words of the President not to mention the Bible as well! We argue the differences in Church and State and yet we still don’t understand the difference! Where is our intelligence? Our comprehension of what is being said or read. It is clear we are not utilizing either. Send them to school, buy them some books and still intellect is at a disadvantage. Come On Pastor Bryant! President Obama is doing a great Job and needs more time to do it! He does not have to prove anything to You or others, he is doing the best he can and will continue to do if given the opportunity. The President (in laymen terms for understanding purposes) is simply giving “equal rights to all” as he is responsible for all on a different platform. It is not indicating that he believes in gay marriages, he’s allowing the CHOICE for all! Just as our Lord and Savior allows the CHOICE for us. The bottom line is those of us who make bad CHOICES will have to answer to GOD not man. You or the President cannot be responsible for the actions of others or their belief system. It is happening whether it is legalized or not. President Obama is stressing the RIGHTS and EQUALITY for all as a One Nation Under God. I support President Obama’s suggestion and feel it is right, however, that does not make me believe that gay marriages and gay choices is NOT a sin for according to God’s Word…it is! We can inform as Ministers of the Gospel but the CHOICE is left up to people/individuals in what they will do and believe. Let God be God and You be responsible for spreading HIS word correctly through SOUND DOCTRINE. We misconstrue too many things which causes confusion and direlect. Take it to God in Prayer and pray for those who do not Understand. President Obama is doing his job overall not just for one group! He is the Commander in Chief, GOD is the ULTIMATE COMMANDER IN CHIEF. The President answers to HIM for all of his actions. Pray for our President and pray for this world.

The black church should put its money where its mouth is. The black church is “R I C H’ but you never hear of them contributing large amounts of money to influence political policies. Then it becomes a matter of separation of church and state. If its separate when it comes to money keep it separate on everything including those 501C3’s. If they cant help, dont harm. Maybe that snake in the garden of eden was the black church.

God doesn’t need Jamal Bryant to tell President Obama what to do or how to feel, that his job.

Black chuches and their Paster’s need to make sure they are in good standing with God and stop judging others.

The Pastor needs to deal with the high crime rate from young black men, 16 years old girls are OK being pregnant – Huh? The Pastors really need to watch ‘Gangland.’ Why aren’t the Pastors protecting black women who are getting beaten and/or killed every 15 minutes. The AIDS/HIV is very high amoung ‘straight black women & men.’ In Georgia in 2009, 39% of black males gradulated from High School, and the Pastor is so ‘concerned’ about the Gay Community. Come on Pastor you can do better than this!
